Michigan State is looking to build some momentum for the 2026 recruiting class, and the Spartans picked up a big piece for the cycle recently.

Coming out of the weekend, 4-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham confirmed that he is flipping his commitment away from UCF. Wortham had been committed to the Knights since April but flipped during his official visit to Michigan State.

A multi-sport athlete who also competes in track and field, Wortham also held offers from Georgia, Kansas State, Arizona, Colorado and Iowa, among others. Now, he will head to MSU as a key prospect for head coach Jonathan Smith.

Wortham is listed at 6-feet and 175 pounds out of Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida. He’s rated as a 4-star recruit per the 247 Sports Composite and the 59th overall WR for the 2026 recruiting class.

Wortham becomes the 19th hard commitment of the cycle for MSU, a group that rates 24th nationally per the team composite rankings. He is the 3rd commitment with a 4-star composite rating as Smith and his staff look to take a step forward on and off the field this year.

In 2024, the Spartans went 5-7 on the field and finished with the 57th overall recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. Now, it’s important that Smith begins building toward a potential breakthrough in East Lansing.
