ESPN’s FPI is predicting every Michigan State game heading into 2022. Coming out of 2021, the Spartans are looking to build on an 11-win season and Peach Bowl win.
Heading into the season, the Football Power Index has some favorable projections for Mel Tucker’s squad. Though some of the games are projected to be neck-and-neck, the Spartans are given good odds to win 9 games on the schedule.
There are 3 games that the Spartans are expected to be underdogs in. That group is against Ohio State, at Michigan and at Penn State.
While the Spartans will shoot to win every game, a 9-win season would be a good step for the program after the success of 2021. Here is the full list of projections by the FPI:
- Sept. 2 vs. Western Michigan — 94.1% chance of winning
- Sept. 10 vs. Akron — 98% chance of winning
- Sept. 17 at Washington — 60.7% chance of winning
- Sept. 24 vs. Minnesota — 74.5% chance of winning
- Oct. 1 at Maryland — 58.2% chance of winning
- Oct. 8 vs. Ohio State — 16.9% chance of winning
- Oct. 15 vs. Wisconsin — 62.6% chance of winning
- Oct. 29 at Michigan — 30.5% chance of winning
- Nov. 5 at Illinois — 80.5% chance of winning
- Nov. 12 vs. Rutgers — 90.5% chance of winning
- Nov. 19 vs. Indiana — 87.7% chance of winning
- Nov. 26 at Penn State — 41.4% chance of winning
