Mark Dantonio hasn’t signed too many 5-star recruits during his tenure at Michigan State, which means it’s a pretty big deal when the Spartans land a blue-chip prospect.

Wednesday, Michigan State officially received the signature of Devontae Dobbs, a 5-star offensive tackle out of Belleville, Michigan. He becomes just the third 5-star recruit to sign with the Spartans since Dantonio took over the program in 2007.

William Gholston (2010 DE) and Malik McDowell (2014 DE) were the other two blue-chip recruits to land in East Lansing.

Entering National Signing Day, Michigan State had a top 30 recruiting class nationally and ranked in the top half of the B1G. Currently, 19 players have either signed their National Letter of Intent or have given a verbal pledge.

Dobbs had been committed to Michigan State for some time, but it’s always a sign of relief when the Letter of Intent comes through the fax machine. Dantonio and Co. received that message Wednesday morning.

Michigan State is coming off a 7-5 regular season and will play Oregon in the Redbox Bowl on Dec. 31.
