Michigan State found itself in a sticky situation Saturday night when a pre-game trivia question featuring Adolf Hitler was broadcast across the jumbotron. That question included a full graphic of Hitler and drew swift and harsh criticism across social media.

The university has since acknowledged the incident and issued an apology. In Michigan State’s official statement, the university pinned the inappropriate question and graphic on the use of a third-party source.

“MSU is aware that inappropriate content by a third-party source was displayed on the videoboard prior to the start of tonight’s football game,” said Matt Larson, MSU’s Associate AD/Communications via statement. “We are deeply sorry for the content that was displayed, as this is not representative of our institutional values. MSU will not be using the third-party source going forward and will implement stronger screening and approval procedures for all videoboard content in the future.”

While Michigan State has had to answer for that embarrassing fiasco, the play of the Spartans on the field has not been up to par. Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan program carried a 42-0 lead into the fourth quarter, and the Wolverines are well on their way to back-to-back wins in the in-state rivalry series.
