Michigan State is back from its bye weekend and kicking its losing streak, beat Iowa at home by a final score of 32-20 Saturday night. While the Hawkeyes were favored in this one, it was Jonathan Smith’s Spartans who came up with a special teams clinic and well-rounded performance.

While starting QB Aidan Chiles could not get the offense into the end zone in the first half, the Spartans were moving the ball well throughout. It led to a quartet of field goals from kicker Jonathan Kim and a 12-0 lead at the break.

Iowa did make this one a game with 14 points in the 3rd quarter, but the Spartans were able to answer at every turn. That includes the 4th quarter when Kim tacked on 2 more field goals in the early portion of the quarter.

Kim’s 6th and final field goal made it 25-14 in favor of Michigan State. It also set a new Spartan record for made field goals in a game.

When the final buzzer sounded, Kim finished 6-for-7 on field goals with his only miss coming from 55 yards out. However, he had a 2nd try from that range and was good in a crucial moment.

Kim also accounted for 20 of Michigan State’s total 32 points in a major special teams performance. It snaps a 3-game losing streak for MSU and moves the Spartans to 4-3 overall and .500 in B1G play.
