Michigan State loses commitment from 2024 WR/DB out of New York

Michigan State’s 2024 recruiting class has taken another hit.

With a full-time head coaching vacancy, Syair Torrence has decided to consider other options. A standout defensive back and wide receiver from Syracuse, New York, Torrence had committed to MSU on June 25.

Torrence took to social media on Sunday to announce his decommitment from the Spartans.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for continuing to watch over myself, my family, friends, teammates and all those closest to me,” Torrence wrote. “The current situation at Michigan State, surrounded by a lot of uncertainty, has been one I’ve gone back and forth about in previous weeks. After discussing with my parents and coaches, I think it’s best that I consider all options for my future at the next level. I am officially de-committing from Michigan State and my recruitment is now 100% open. Praying I find a stable, consistent football home as my journey continues. Trusting the Lord throughout the process.”

Out of Christian Brothers Academy, Torrence is listed as measuring 5-11, 195 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Torrence is rated 3-stars, the No. 7 player in the state of New York, No. 127 wide receiver and No. 974 prospect overall in the Class of 2024. He was recruited to MSU by cornerbacks coach Jim Salgado.

Torrence also has scholarship offers from Michigan, Rutgers, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and others. MSU has 10 commitments in a 2024 class ranked No. 64 nationally on the Composite.
