Michigan State loses hometown RB commitment in flip to Alabama

Michigan State got some tough news on the recruiting trail Tuesday, seeing a hometown recruit leave MSU’s class for an opportunity at Alabama.
Jace Clarizio had been committed to the hometown Spartans since May 14. On Tuesday, however, he announced that he is now a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2025 recruiting class.

Out of East Lansing (Michigan) High School, Clarizio’s listed measurements are 6-feet and 190 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Clarizio is rated 3-stars, the No. 6 player in the state of Michigan, No. 37 running back and No. 493 prospect overall in the Class of 2025.
Clarizio picked up 17 scholarship offers during his recruitment. Alabama worked quickly, extending a scholarship offer on Nov. 6 and getting him on campus the following week.

With Clarizio off the board, Michigan State is down to 15 verbal pledges for 2025. MSU’s 2025 class, the first full cycle for Jonathan Smith’s staff, ranks No. 61 nationally and next-to-last in the Big Ten (No. 17) on the Composite.
Smith and his staff will look to close strong with the Early Signing Period beginning in December.
