Michigan State was off to a 4-1 overall start through its first five games this season. In each of the four wins, the Spartans scored at least 28 points.
The offense wasn’t flourishing, but it wasn’t performing as poorly as one may think based on what the media and fans were saying. The next two games, however, led to even louder boo birds.
Michigan State were outscored by Ohio State and Wisconsin 72-10 in back-to-back weeks. Both games, of course, resulted in losses.

The Spartans had a bye following its most recent loss and is now preparing to take on Penn State in East Lansing. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and the game will be televised on ABC.
Ahead of the matchup, Michigan State offensive lineman Luke Campbell talked about the struggles in the weeks past and what the mindset is going into the game against the Nittany Lions:
“There was a few things that went into [the struggles],” Campbell said. “They [Wisconsin] ran a trickier defense than I thought they would have ran. But they played a good game, they played a really good game, they executed. Every time they needed to execute, they executed and every time we needed to execute, it didn’t go our way.
“It’s will, it’s technique. It’s knowing what to do, it’s not hesitating. We’re not very satisfied with our performance at all, so we’re ready to come out and move some people.”
We’ll see exactly how the Spartans’ line plays soon enough. Of it doesn’t play up to its standard, a three-game losing streak seems likely.
