After enduring an ankle injury that kept him off the field for over a month, Michigan State running back LJ Scott finally returned to action last weekend. The senior says he’s feeling great moving forward.
Scott made his return Saturday against Michigan after missing the previous four games. He took 10 carries for 25 yards in the Spartans’ loss. More important than his production is that the senior says he’s fully healthy and ready to get things rolling again.
“I’m definitely 100 percent, feel good and ready to go and move forward,” Scott said, according to MLive.com.
Scott hadn’t seen the field since suffering an injury in Michigan State’s Sept. 8 matchup against Arizona State. Despite participating in warmups while suffering through the injury, Scott didn’t participate until Saturday’s rivalry game.
Watching the games from the sideline was tough for the running back.
“Watching those guys play and me not play was probably the hardest thing,” Scott said. It was frustrating. Keeping that positive mindset is a big thing.”
Michigan State’s rushing attack has been stagnant through most of the season. As a team, the Spartans are averaging 107 yards per game this year, which ranks 13th in the B1G. Scott’s absence and injuries along the offensive line have played major roles in the lack of success on the ground.
Scott’s return doesn’t mean Michigan State will have a power rushing attack, but being fully healthy is certainly a big help. Last year, Scott was key in the Spartans’ attack on the ground, rushing for 898 yards and eight touchdowns.
This season, Scott has 128 yards on 40 touches.
Michigan State will host Purdue on Saturday to try and get back on the winning track. Having Scott at 100 percent should certainly be a benefit on the ground.
