It certainly appears as if Michigan State’s CJ Hayes is switching from wide receiver to the other side of the football.
On Instagram, Hayes posted an image of himself at fall camp with the caption, “Embrace the change and run with it.” He then had an exchange with former Spartans receiver Felton Davis III, indicating he’ll now be a defensive back for the Spartans.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Hayes spent his first three seasons in the program at the receiver position. He appeared in 17 games and made 14 catches for 154 yards. Hayes missed last season because of injury.

Hayes is currently still listed as a wide receiver on the roster on MSUSpartans.com.
A switch to defensive back for Hayes would give the Spartans some much-needed depth at the position. Michigan State’s biggest concerns on the defensive side of the ball come in the secondary, and this would certainly address some of those issues.
Michigan State will be entering its second season under head coach Mel Tucker. The Spartans were 2-5 a year ago but are looking to bounce back in a big way.
