Michigan State’s streak of having a player selected in the NFL Draft has come to an end.
No Spartans were selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, ending the streak at 80 years. The program had seen players taken every year since 1940 and was tied for one of the longest streaks in the sport.
Defensive back Shakur Brown and linebacker Antjuan Simmons were the two most-likely players out of East Lansing to hear their names called at some point during the draft. But by the time the dust settled on Saturday in Cleveland, neither had received the phone call.
Naquan Jones, a defensive lineman, was also a candidate to be picked in the draft.
Michigan and USC are the two teams in college football with longer streaks, stretching 83 years. Both the Wolverines and Trojans had players selected in this year’s draft, as well.
Michigan State was just one of two B1G teams that did not have a player selected, along with Rutgers.
