Two former Michigan defensive standouts had to wait a little longer than expected, but finally heard their names called on Friday night at the NFL Draft.
Defensive end Chase Winovich and defensive back David Long were both taken in the middle of the third round of the draft, taken within two picks of each other. Winovich was the first off the board, selected No. 77 by the New England Patriots. Long was taken by the Los Angeles Rams at No. 79.
Midway through the third round of the NFL Draft, the Wolverines had four players selected. Devin Bush was taken at No. 10 (Steelers) and Rashan Gary was selected at No. 12 (Packers).
Winovich was a major contributor on a star-studded defensive line for the past two seasons. He totaled 35.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks over the last two seasons.
Long was an excellent defender in the secondary for Michigan over the last two years, as well. He registered 39 tackles, 14 pass break-ups and three interceptions in 2017 and 2018.
