Wilton Speight or Brandon Peters?

That seems to be the question everyone close to Ann Arbor is asking as we creep up on Week 1 of the college football season. And on Wednesday, Michigan fans had the chance to hear the answer, straight from the mouth of pass game coordinator Pep Hamilton.

Except Hamilton kept everything relatively vague while talking with reporters. Here’s what Hamilton said about the quarterback race, according to Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News:

“Who is your quarterback?” he was asked.

“We have several,” Hamilton said without flinching.

“Who’s the starter?” another reporter ventured to ask.

“We have, potentially, several,” Hamilton responded.

And then there were lots of knowing laughs.

Any hopes Michigan fans had of finding out who the No. 1 starter was at this point in camp were dashed.

It would seem that Speight would have the upper hand after a solid 2016 campaign, though a shoulder injury really hindered his ability in the final few weeks of the season. And his popularity didn’t grow much after throwing three interceptions in Michigan’s spring game.

But right now, only the Michigan coaching staff knows who’s sitting at the No. 1 quarterback spot right now.

Or maybe they really don’t.
