Mickey Joseph, Nebraska’s interim head coach, has provided some clarification on starting quarterback Casey Thompson’s status. It looks like the Cornhuskers could be without Thompson for Minnesota with a possible arm injury.
According to Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald, Thompson is day-to-day and did not practice Tuesday:
Mickey Joseph says QB Casey Thompson remains day to day. He didn’t practice Tuesday and is continuing to see doctors. Nerve issue in his arm.
Smothers and Purdy took even reps in practice.

Thompson has had a productive year despite all of the issues the Nebraska program has been going through. He’s thrown for 2,023 yards on 224 attempts for a 62.9 completion percentage.
Things have been inconsistent for Thompson despite some of the highlights with 10 interceptions on the year. He’s also been sacked 19 times while dealing with the chaos both on and off the field. Unfortunately, Thompson was taken out of the Illinois game late in the second quarter and didn’t return for the second half.
Nebraska then brought in backup QB Chubba Purdy who completed only 3 passes for 15 yards.
Despite not practicing, Joseph has not stated whether or not Thompson will miss Saturday and plans on monitoring his progress “day to day.”
