Mike Golic Jr. says B1G is nation’s best conference

ESPN analyst Mike Golic Jr. is a fan of the B1G this season.
Wednesday morning on SportsCenter, the former Notre Dame offensive lineman was asked which conference he thought was the best in college football right now. His response? The B1G.
The conference has five teams ranked in the Associated Press’ top 25 and three have been staples in the top 10 all year long, so the argument for the B1G is a fairly easy one. But why does Golic believe it’s the best conference in football?
“(The B1G is) A quality group especially knowing Ohio State and Michigan are down relative to this,” he said. “You’ve got Penn State and Saquon Barkley representing in your top four right now and Wisconsin has looked great this year. I understand there’s going to be some cannibalizing that goes on, but in the early portion of this season, to see three teams in the top 10 and five in the top 25, this conference has showed well for itself and there’s a lot of top-end talent that can compete with any group in the country.”
For most of the year, the B1G has had four teams ranked in the top 10, but Michigan’s loss to Michigan State dropped the Wolverines down to No. 17.
There are still a lot of really good matchups remaining this season, so we’ll get a better feel for how good teams like Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State really are moving forward.
So far, though, Golic is right. The B1G is the best conference in football.
