Mike Locksley, Maryland football’s head coach, addressed the arrest of Terps co-OC Kevin Sumlin Tuesday afternoon.
Sumlin was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Tampa, Florida early Saturday morning. The Terrapins were on Bye in Week 8.
Locksley told reporters that Maryland is aware of the charges and said it was disappointing, especially from a model and expectations standouts for coaches on the staff. Locksley also said that Sumlin will not be with the team this week.
Here’s his full comment on Sumlin’s arrest:
Mike Locksley on Kevin Sumlin following his arrest: “As coaches, we have to set the example & model the behavior that we want [for] our players…he’s part of our football family & we’re going to support Kevin [Sumlin]…we’ll let the personnel…kind of dictate how things play out” pic.twitter.com/Ouj8Z2JUY6

This is Sumlin’s first season at Maryland after stints as a HC for Texas A&M, Houston and Arizona. He’s most well-known for his time at Texas A&M, coaching 2012 Heisman winner Johnny Manziel. He coached the Aggies from 2012-2017.
