Mike Locksley does not have a final decision for the status of quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa heading into the 2023 season. However, the head coach did reveal what he’s expecting at a Tuesday press conference.
According to Locksley, the star QB plans to return “as far as I know.” Tagovailoa has played parts of 4 seasons since joining Alabama via the 2019 recruiting class but only appeared in 3 games as a true freshman and 4 games during the 2020 season.
“As far as I know, he plans to return,” Mike Locksley says of Taulia Tagovailoa’s future at Maryland.

Obviously getting Tagovailoa back for another season would be a massive boost for the Terrapins. During the 2022 season, Tagovailoa broke Maryland’s all-time records for passing yards and passing touchdowns. As he currently stands, Tagovailoa has 7,658 yards for Maryland with 50 passing touchdowns.
If Tagovailoa returned for another season, he could cement his spot atop the program’s all-time record books for years to come. His return would also boost Maryland’s chances of a third straight bowl game in 2023.
