Mike Locksley and the Maryland Terrapins walked into Columbus Saturday and went toe-to-toe with Ohio State for much of the game. Though the final score wound up being a lopsided 37-17, the Terrapins were tied at the half and gave the Buckeyes all they could handle.
During the game, Taulia Tagovailoa started hot but ultimately made some mistakes that were costly. Despite a passing and rushing touchdown, Tagovailoa threw 2 interceptions — including a pick-6 — that were costly. He also butchered the ending of the first half and cost the team a field goal attempt.
Asked about the QB after the game, Locksley noted the mistakes but also said the program is going to stand by Tagovailoa. The task now is to review the tape and turn the attention to Illinois.
“Obviously when you turn it over, not good. You give up a pick-6 there, you watch the tape, the receiver is supposed to turn inside, he turns outside. There’s a communication issue… Taulia’s a veteran player, he’s played a lot of football for us. We’ll win and lose with him and I’ll take my chances with him because he’s a competitor,” said Locksley. “I would have liked to have seen him play a little better today. We’ll look at the tape, get him corrected and get him home at the Shell and we’ve got Illinois for homecoming.”
