Maryland has been mostly healthy throughout fall camp, but the Terrapins still have a couple of injuries to key players with the season opener approaching.
On Wednesday, head coach Mike Locksley took time to address the injuries to running back Peny Boone and wide receiver Jeshaun Jones. According to Jack Rothenberg with Inside MD Sports, Locksley indicated Boone is in the concussion protocol while Jones is dealing with a hamstring issue.
Fortunately, neither issue is expected to linger. Locksley is expecting Boone to return on Thursday while Jones has been in and out of practice:
“[Jones] probably wasn’t repping a lot [today]. When we get to this point in camp we try to rest some veteran guys…but this won’t be any issue for him,” Locksley said.
Jones is expected to be a key receiver for quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa and the Terrapin offense. He finished fourth on the team with 11 catches for 181 yards during 2020 but was among the team leaders with 16.5 YPC.
Boone is expected to be a reserve in the backfield but is likely to play into the workload behind starter Tayon-Fleet Davis. Boone carried the ball 19 times for 86 yards as a true freshman in 2020.
Maryland will start the season off at home vs. West Virginia on Sept. 4.
