Mike Riley wasn’t about to get on the defensive about Nebraska’s loss to Northern Illinois. He especially didn’t want to make any comment that might rub athletic director Shawn Eichorst the wrong way, either.

During Riley’s press conference on Monday, the Huskers head coach was asked about the comments that Eichorst made following Saturday’s loss. Riley said he didn’t hear the remarks but said, “whatever was said, we probably earned.”

Eichorst said he was “angry, frustrated and disappointed” after Nebraska lost a home contest to Northern Illinois. He also said he knows everyone is working hard but “it’s time to take it up a notch.”

Nebraska is off to a 1-2 start and has lost back-to-back games. Many believe that Riley’s job security in Lincoln is starting to dwindle and fan support is also plummeting.

One thing is for sure, Riley didn’t want to poke the bear during Monday’s press conference.
