Mike Tirico, Drew Brees’ replacement on NBC Notre Dame broadcasts revealed, per report

NBC will be broadcasting B1G football starting with the 2024 season. The longtime home of Notre Dame football, though, will be rolling out a new broadcast team for Fighting Irish games with Mike Tirico replacing Al Michaels on “Sunday Night Football” and Drew Brees exiting the network altogether.
According to the New York Post, Jac Collinsworth and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett will be NBC’s new Notre Dame broadcast team, starting with Sept. 10’s game against Marshall.
Collinsworth’s father is, of course, Cris Collinsworth, the longtime color analyst on SNF. The younger Collinsworth, 27, has been with NBC Sports since 2020, primarily on “Football Night In America”. He was previously with ESPN. It’s not his first play-by-play assignment, as he was behind the mic for NBC’s coverage of the USFL and Atlantic 10 basketball.
Garrett joined NBC in the offseason, with his primary role serving as an analyst on FNIA. He also has been part of the network’s USFL coverage.
It’s obviously too early to tell what role the duo will have during NBC’s upcoming B1G coverage — it could be that Notre Dame finally shakes off its independent label and join the conference — but as far as Fighting Irish football is concerned, it will be interesting to hear the reaction Collinsworth and Garrett will receive from the team’s fans.
