Former Michigan State player Connor Heyward hopes that his first NFL training camp ends with him on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 53-man roster heading into the 2022 regular season.
The younger brother of Steelers star defensive tackle Cameron Heyward was taken in the 6th round by Pittsburgh in the most recent draft, seeing some action — both on special teams and on offense — during the team’s preseason win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. He pulled in 2 catches for 24 yards, plus a catch for a 2-point conversion, while finishing with a pair of tackles in kick coverage.

“It’s good to see him make some coverage unit plays,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “You always [have] questions about…the offensive football players [in] the special teams game. And I think he had a couple of kickoff tackles, which is good for him and for us.”
Heyward is clearly making a nice impression on Tomlin and Steelers fans in the early going. Can he continue the momentum throughout the remainder of training camp and the rest of preseason?
