There’s no question that Chase Winovich is a special talent. His years at Michigan were evidence that he possessed the skill set to not only make it to the NFL level, but to be successful as a professional.
What makes the former Michigan defensive end so talented, though? Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin answered that question about the current Patriot.
“He’s had an awesome preseason,” said Tomlin, according to 247Sports. “I really have a lot of respect for him. Through draft preparation I saw a lot of him. He’s a quality edge rusher.
“His hand usage, his awareness in terms of his rush. His overall in-game awareness. His motor,” said Tomlin. “He had a lot of positive attributes.”

Winovich has often been praised for his high motor and playing with relentless effort. It’s what helped turn him into one of the B1G’s top defensive lineman over the last two seasons. Ultimately, he was able to translate that into a third-round draft pick.
Now, he’s looking to have a meaningful role in the New England Patriots defense as soon as possible. Tomlin believes the former Wolverine won’t have much of an issue carving out a significant spot, even with the premier franchise in the NFL.
