Former Ohio State running back Mike Weber has had to hear that he’s “too slow,” heading into the NFL Combine. But he put that rumor to rest on Friday afternoon.
Weber was among the fastest running backs to participate at the combine on Friday, posted a 4.47 official time in the 40-yard dash. That time tied for the third-fastest at the combine, along with Florida’s Jordan Scarlett.
Only two other running backs were faster: Temple’s Ryquell Armstead (4.45) and Oklahoma State’s Justice Hill (4.40).
Top official 40 times for running backs at #NFLCombine:
1. Justice Hill, @CowboyFB, 4.40
2. Ryquell Armstead, @Temple_FB, 4.45
t3. Jordan Scarlett, @GatorsFB, 4.47
t3. Mike Weber, @OhioStateFB, 4.47
5. Travis Homer, @CanesFootball, 4.48— NFL Draft (@NFLDraft) March 1, 2019
That’s a pretty significant accomplishment for Weber, who wasn’t expected to post such a speedy time at the combine. He’s already really helped his draft stock.
Here’s what Weber’s 40 looked like on Friday:

As if that time wasn’t enough, Weber also pounded out 22 reps on the bench press, another impressive feat for the running back.
Weber has battled injuries throughout his career at Ohio State, so it’s good to see him healthy and performing well in Indianapolis. In his final season with the Buckeyes, he rushed for 954 yards and five touchdowns while appearing in 13 games.
It’ll be interesting to see how Weber’s combine performance affects his draft stock over the next two months.
