Penn State running backs producing at a high level as an NFL rookie has become a recent trend over the last two years. Last season, it was Saquon Barkley with the New York Giants. This fall, it’s been Miles Sanders with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sanders has had an outstanding rookie season in Philadelphia, leading the team in rushing yards and ranking third in receiving yards. Not a bad start to his NFL career.

Through 15 games, Sanders has piled up 766 rushing yards on 170 carries, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He’s also totaled 47 catches fro 510 yards. Sanders has accounted for six total touchdowns this year.

According to NFL Research, Miles became just the fifth rookie since 2000 to total over 500 rushing and 500 receiving yards in the same season. He joins Reggie Bush, Giovani Bernard, Alvin Kamara and Barkley, his former Penn State teammate.

That’s pretty good company to join.

Sanders was instrumental in Philadelphia’s win over Dallas on Sunday, rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. He also totaled five receptions for 77 yards to help the Eagles post a 17-9 victory and improve to 8-7 on the year and take over first place in the NFC East.

The former second-round pick of the 2019 NFL Draft is really making a difference in Philadelphia this season.
