Miller Moss threw for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns against the snarling Penn State defense in last Saturday’s showdown in Los Angeles, and USC’s junior quarterback led an offense that piled up 409 total yards in nearly knocking off the then-No. 4 Nittany Lions.
Moss did pretty well for himself, thank you, as the Trojans actually looked like they were going to pull the upset until Penn State roared back in the 2nd half and prevailed, 33-30, in overtime to stay undefeated. In Tuesday’s weekly press conference, Moss was asked about the team’s offensive execution, but instead Moss’s focus was on the Nittany Lions defense he had spent the better part of last Saturday carving up, even in defeat.
“I thought offensively we did a really good job,” said Moss. “There’s not defenses better than that in the country. Nobody has come close to touching 30 points on those guys, and we’re two penalties away from having 40 (points).”
Penn State had only allowed 18 points combined in its previous 3 games before venturing out to LA for its 1st ever Big Ten showdown against one of the conference’s newest members. But the Moss-led Trojans put up 30 on the Nittany Lions, including 20 in taking a 20-6 lead at halftime.
“They’re going to make some plays and we’re going to make some plays,” said Moss. “I think offensively we put those guys on their heels and in situations they hadn’t been in all year. I’m proud of how we executed as a group.”
Moss and USC dropped to 3-3 with the tough loss and will look to bounce back on Saturday at Maryland.
