Minnesota is working on putting together the 2023 recruiting class, and the Gophers added a nice in-state prospect on Monday.

The commitment came from Alex Elliott, a linebacker out of Hutchinson, Minnesota. Elliott committed to the Gophers over offers from Kansas, Ohio, Air Force, North Dakota State and Army, among others.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Lord for truly blessing me with this opportunity and surrounding me with great people that guided me through this process,” wrote Elliott in his announcement. “Thank you to my family, my parents for always supporting me, my older brothers for being great role models, and especially my brother Aaron for being the best competition I could ask for.

“Thank you to all my teammates throughout my whole career as an athlete so far, you guys have always been there for me…With that being said, I am beyond excited to announce that I have made my decision to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota!”

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 lbs., the 247 Sports rates Elliott as a 3-star prospect. He’s also rated the No. 11 prospect out of Minnesota for the cycle and the top LB out of the state for 2023.

Elliott becomes Minnesota’s 9th commit via the class of 2023 with that group ranking 19th nationally on the team rankings.
