Minnesota coach Ben Johnson has added his first transfer commitment since taking over the head job.

The Gophers received a commitment from George Washington transfer Jamison Battle on Monday evening. Battle is a Minneapolis native.

Here’s his announcement:

Battle played for George Washington for two seasons, and impressed enough to justify a jump to the Big Ten. As a sophomore last season, he averaged 17.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

He’s been a volume shooter so far in his career, making 36.3 percent of his career 3-pointers on an average of 8.1 attempts per game.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, Battle was one of the top available transfers on the market.

The addition of Battle should help lessen the sting of losing Marcus Carr. Last season, he averaged 19.4 points per game for the Gophers.
