Minnesota is ready to get the 2024 season rolling, hitting the field Thursday night for a season opener against North Carolina.

The 2 sides faced off in Chapel Hill a season ago in a showdown that was heavily dominated by the Tar Heels. UNC would win that game 31-13 behind a big afternoon from Drake Maye and an inconsistent outing from Athan Kaliakmanis.

This time around, things will look different for both teams with Maye in the NFL and Kaliakmanis now at Rutgers. Max Brosmer will take the field for his first start with the Gophers.

As the Gophers head into the season opener, the team unveiled their season-opening threads Wednesday night. Minnesota is breaking out their golden jerseys for this one with a “Gold Out” in effect while adding maroon lids and pants to complete the look.

Even with a disappointing performance, Minnesota finished last season 6-7 overall with another bowl win after backing into the postseason at 5-7. Now, the Gophers will try to regain their footing as one of the most consistent B1G programs under PJ Fleck.

Thursday’s kickoff between Minnesota and UNC is set for 8 pm ET with the broadcast on FOX.
