Minnesota football player Casey O’Brien announces he’s defeated cancer for a fifth time

Casey O’Brien has done it again. The four-time cancer survivor has finished his final round of chemotherapy and is now a five-time survivor of the disease.
The Minnesota place holder made the announcement with a tweet on Friday. He shared a picture celebrating after completing his final round of treatment. He said he “can’t wait to go play football.”

O’Brien was first diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 13. During the course of his life, he’s undergone multiple lung surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, as well as having a knee replacement. He had been cancer-free for two years before he revealed that there was a spot found on one of his lungs.
Last season, O’Brien played in his first college football game with the Golden Gophers. His story has been featured on ESPN’s College GameDay and he provided the speech at the 2019 B1G Media Days.
We can’t wait to see O’Brien back on the field this fall after another victory over cancer.
