Minnesota has seen a rise in productivity since the arrival of P.J. Fleck in 2017. The Gophers had their biggest success in the 2019 season when they accounted for an overall record of 11-2. Last season was a difficult year for Minnesota as the team had gone through the process of COVID-19.
The Gophers have been in a solid rebound this season as they look to develop the program and account for a big win. They had a chance to get a win on the road vs. a big rival in No. 20 Iowa.
Minnesota was able to get the score to a one-point deficit as the Gophers went into the fourth quarter down 17-16. It took a 29-yard field goal from Iowa with 41 seconds left to finalize the 27-22 win for the Hawkeyes.
While disappointed with the loss, Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck feels that the program is one step closer to being a consistent contender in the race for the B1G West and to getting a win over the Hawkeyes. Hopefully, Fleck is right after falling to 0-5 vs. Kirk Ferentz on Saturday.
PJ Fleck:
"It came down to the very end, we haven’t played Iowa like that. It’s so frustrating to say it, but it’s the next step. We got closer, and you’ve got to get closer before you can get over it." #Gophers https://t.co/8d4ZwlfJiF
