Minnesota basketball earned a commitment from Pepperdine guard transfer Mike Mitchell Jr. on Wednesday, a nice reminder that the transfer portal doors swing both ways.
The Gophers recently lost top guard Ta’Lon Cooper to South Carolina, but this is an interesting addition for next year’s team. Mitchell averaged 11.4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists last season and was Pepperdine’s top guard option.

What stands out about Mitchell is his insane shooting ability. The 6-2 guard hit 44% of his 3-pointers last season, a mark that ranked No. 32 in the nation in 2022-23.
He played well against strong competition, too. He dropped 22 points against San Francisco, also adding 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists against Gonzaga earlier in the year.
