New head coach Ben Johnson has landed one player for Minnesota’s 2021-22 roster.

On Friday, transfer Luke Loewe revealed via his personal Twitter account that he is committing to the Gophers. Loewe is a four-year player and grad transfer out of William & Mary and will spend his final year of eligibility at Minnesota.

Loewe is a 6-foot-4 guard and took his game to another level in 2020-21. He averaged 16.2 points per game to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists. His season-high was 27 points in a loss to Hofstra.

In four seasons at William & Mary, Loewe has appeared in 107 games with 79 career starts. He is a career 48% shooter from the floor and shoots 35% from three-point range.

After taking over as head coach, Johnson now has the task of filling out a roster for 2021-22 with a number of Minnesota players entering the transfer portal in recent weeks. Whether or not some of those players return to the Gophers remains to be seen, but we now know that Loewe will be one of the players on the team for next season.
