Most of the focus this week will be on the 2020 recruiting class, with college football teams taking advantage of the Early Signing Period that runs from Dec. 18 through Dec. 20. But that doesn’t stop Minnesota from looking ahead to future classes.
This week, 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive lineman Deven Eastern committed to Minnesota over Nebraska as a member of the 2021 recruiting cycle. He made the announcement on Thursday via Twitter.

Eastern will not be the first member of his family to be a student-athlete in the B1G, as his half-brother Nojel Eastern is a member of Purdue’s basketball team, according to the Pioneer Press.
According to 247Sports, Eastern becomes the third player to commit to the Gophers in the 2021 class. Another prospect is listed as a “soft commit.”
The Gophers are currently sitting at No. 32 nationally and ninth in the B1G with their 2020 recruiting class, as 23 players signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Three players remain who are listed as “hard commits” for Minnesota.
