Former Minnesota running back Darrell Thompson believes his career rushing touchdown record is in great danger this season.

Thompson, who holds the program record with 40 career rushing touchdowns, said on a Minnesota radio show this morning, “It’s definitely coming down,” regarding his record being broken.

Thompson, who played for the Gophers from 1986 to 1989, has held the record for over 30 years, but it is only a matter of time before it is broken.

The man who threatens it is Mo Ibrahim, who just moved into second place with 36 career rushing touchdowns. He picked up his 36th in the first quarter of the Gophers’ game Saturday. Barring an injury, Ibrahim should secure the record well before the end of the season.

Ibrahim has been with Minnesota for 6 seasons now, so it was bound to happen at some point.

Minnesota currently leads West Illinois 14-0.
