A member of Minnesota’s offensive line has decided to call it a career.
Tuesday, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Kyle Sassack via Twitter that he would be medically retiring from football. He was a member of the Golden Gophers’ 2017 recruiting class and appeared in two career games, according to his player bio on Minnesota’s website.
“Football has been a large part of my life since I was young,” Sassack wrote. “This was my last season playing football. Earlier this season I injured my shoulder for a third time and am no longer able to play football at this high level. I have been granted a medical retirement from the NCAA.”

In 2017, Sassack utilized his redshirt season after arriving in Minneapolis. In 2018, as a redshirt freshman, Sassack played in his first career game with the Golden Gophers. He went on to participate in one other contest that season.
Minnesota’s offensive line started out sluggish this season, but improved throughout the season. With a position group that needs a lot of depth to compete in the B1G, this will be a big loss for the Gophers.
