Minnesota is on a roll, following its win over Iowa with another upset, this time of No. 17 Michigan State.
On Monday night, the two teams squared off in Minnesota with the Gophers dominating from the jump. After beating Iowa in a 102-95 shootout, it was the defensive work that proved impressive against the Spartans.
Heading into the break, the Gophers had built a 20-point halftime lead while holding Michigan State to just 16 points in the first half. Things did not get much better after the break with Tom Izzo’s squad finishing the game shooting 25.7% from the floor.
As Michigan State scored 56 points, Minnesota built a huge lead and held onto it for the largest margin of victory over the Spartans in school history:
That was impressive. 💪

If that wasn’t bad enough for the Spartans, the loss sent them to 0-3 in conference play. According to the BTN Stats Guys, that is just the second time it has happened in the Tom Izzo era.
The only other season was in 2001-02:
#MichiganState is now 0-3 in #B1G play for the second time in the Tom Izzo era (also in 2001-02). It is just the 2nd such occurrence for the #Spartans since 1988. #B1GMBBall #MSUvsMINN

The Gophers will look to keep this streak rolling when they take on Wisconsin on New Year’s Eve.
