Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis announced Tuesday afternoon that he will be entering the transfer portal with 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.
Kaliakmanis has been with Minnesota since 2021 but took a redshirt year while sitting behind Tanner Morgan.
Here’s Kaliakmanis’ post announcing his intent to transfer. He cannot technically enter the portal until it opens on December 4.

Kaliakmanis first started at Minnesota in 2022, appearing in 11 games with 5 starts. He finished 3-2 as a starter and threw for 946 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was named the B1G freshman of the Week during the 2022 season as well.
The redshirt sophomore QB finished this season having thrown for just under 2000 yards with 14 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also added a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
Drew Viotto and 2024 pledge Drake Lindsey are likely to be the only 2 QBs on the Minnesota sheet heading into January. Now, the Gophers are likely to look to the portal for a new QB.
