One of the best running backs in the B1G is returning to college for one more season.

Minnesota star Mohamed Ibrahim announced on Monday evening that he will be returning to the team for the 2021 season. It’s a huge boost for P.J. Fleck and the Gophers, which finished the 2020 season with a 3-4 record.

Ibrahim needed just 7 games to pile up 1,076 yards on the ground and score 15 touchdowns. He also caught 8 passes for 56 yards during the shortened season. He was the B1G’s leading rusher in 2020, racking up more than 300 yards more than the league’s second-leading rusher, Iowa running back Tyler Goodson (762).

Below is the message Ibrahim sent out on Twitter on Monday.

Ibrahim has been a key player in Minnesota’s offense over the last three seasons. He developed into the B1G’s top ball carrier after sharing reps with several Gophers during his first two seasons.

The monster season from Ibrahim earned him First-Team All-B1G honors and he was named the B1G Running Back of the Year. Ibrahim was also a Third-Team All-America selection by the Associated Press.

Over his three seasons at Minnesota, Ibrahim has 2,840 yards and 31 touchdowns on the ground. His most productive season was as a freshman in 2018 (in terms of total yardage), when he totaled 1,160 rushing yards.

This is huge news for Minnesota, which hopes to be a contender in the B1G West again in 2021.
