Minnesota sixth-year RB eclipses 1,000 rushing yards in a season for second time, approaching 4,000

Minnesota is traveling to take on Northwestern Saturday and early in the second quarter, the Golden Gophers own a 21-0 lead.

Earlier in the game, sixth-year RB Rodney Smith broke the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season:

But, not only that — as Greder mentioned — Smith is approaching 4,000 yards for his career as well. It’s the second time (2016 with 1,158 yards) he’s eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in a season.

Entering the game, Smith had 3,948 career rushing yards, and in the early part of the second quarter, he currently has 31 yards, giving him 3,979 for his career.

He is 21 away from hitting 4,000 and the game can be seen on ABC.
