The Minnesota Golden Gophers’ quarterback situation this year has been up-and-down. And heading into this Saturday’s game, coach P.J. Fleck will keep mum on Minnesota’s signal caller will remain nameless.
““I’m still thinking through (who will start), but I won’t announce that,” Fleck said to the Pioneer Press. “I’m going to keep that in house.”
The two primary options are Conor Rhoda and Demry Croft. After replacing Rhoda in the second quarter, Croft led a fourth-quarter rally in the 30-27 loss to Michigan State last Saturday. Croft completed 11 of 20 passes for 163 yards, with three touchdowns and an interception against the Spartans. He also had seven rushes or scrambles for 31 yards and kept other passing plays alive by stepping up in the pocket to avoid the rush.
Croft’s performance came after he served a two-game suspension and Fleck liked what he saw from him.
“I think he has shown that in the last two weeks that he can mature and that he can grow up,” Fleck said. “I’m proud of the effort and the progress he’s made.”
