The third year of the P.J. Fleck era at Minnesota is producing some results in the NFL Draft.

Linebacker Kamal Martin became the third former Golden Gopher to hear his name called during this year’s draft. Martin was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 175th pick in the fifth round. He joins safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and wide receiver Tyler Johnson as former Minnesota players picked.

Martin ranked second on the team in tackles this year, totaling 66 in his final year in Minneapolis. He also forced two fumbles and intercepted two passes in eight games for the Golden Gophers, as they enjoyed an 11-2 season.

In his four-year career at Minnesota, Martin racked up 177 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, five interceptions and three forced fumbles. Now, he’s headed to Green Bay to pursue a career in the NFL.

With Martin being selected, Minnesota now has three players who have been picked in this year’s draft. That’s the most for the Gophers since having four players drafted in 2015.
