Presented annually to the FBS head coach whose team best represents success on the field, in the classroom and in the community, Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck was among 22 to qualify for the Bobby Dodd Award Watch List on Thursday.
Minnesota football’s official Twitter account recognized Fleck’s nod:
#Gophers @Coach_Fleck named to @DoddTrophy watch list. Trophy honors a coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity. https://t.co/jQjmlXKPEp#SkiUMah // #RTB pic.twitter.com/lXMhPnrD7S

Along with Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst, Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, Penn State’s James Franklin and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Fleck was one of five B1G coaches to make the list.
Named after the former Georgia Tech coach, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award was first gifted in 1976, to, ironically, Georgia’s Vince Dooley. Michigan’s Bo Schembechler would become the first B1G coach to win the award in 1977. A nominee again this year, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly is the most recent recipient.
Ranked No. 20 in America, Minnesota (6-0) travels to Piscataway to face Rutgers (1-5) on Saturday (3:30PM ET, BTN).
