It’s been a devastating 24 hours for Mississippi State as the Bulldogs said goodbye to head coach Mike Leach, who passed away on Monday.
The spirit of Leach lives on in his players, and his players have decided that they will play in their ReliaQuest Bowl in tribute to the head coach. Interim athletic director Bracky Brett told reporters on Monday that the team had taken a vote, and “the players are 100 percent behind playing this bowl game and doing what coach Leach would expect them to do.”
Mississippi State will meet Illinois in the bowl on Jan. 2nd in Tampa, FL.

Leach was in his third year at the helm in Starkville and led the Bulldogs to a winning 8-4 record during the regular season. The head coach passed away on Monday following complications related to a heart condition.
