Mohamed Ibrahim suffered an injury last season that cut his year short. After making a fully recovery this season, Ibrahim was one of three players to earn the AP Comeback Player of the Year award.
Ibrahim, along with former Indiana QB Michael Penix Jr. and UCLA LB Laiatu Latu, won the award.
Ibrahim played in a single game for the Golden Gophers last season before suffering a ruptured achilles tendon. Ibrahim rushed for 1,594 yards and 19 touchdowns this season.
Penix was coming off of a solid 2020 campaign with Indiana when he had a season-ending shoulder injury in 2021. Penix later transferred to Washington to join former Hoosiers OC Kalen DeBoer and the rest was history. Penix has 4,354 yards passing with 29 touchdowns through the air in 2022.
Latu was at Washington in 2020 where he suffered a neck injury that threatened to end his playing career. Latu later transferred to UCLA in 2022 and recorded 9.5 sacks, 33 total tackles, and 11 tackles for loss.
It’s hard to argue that each of these players don’t deserve the award.
