If a basketball career doesn’t work out, Mady Sissoko might have a shot at volleyball stardom.
The freshman center out of Utah arrived in East Lansing as a well-built player. At 6-foot-9 and 235 lbs., Sissoko has good strength and an elite vertical leap.
He was subbed into the season opener late with the game locked up against Eastern Michigan. It did not take long for Sissoko to display his abilities as a rim protector, emphatically blocking one shot with what appeared to be a volleyball-type spike.
His block earned huge reactions from the Michigan State bench:

Sissoko finished the game with two rebounds and two blocks. He also drew two fouls, but Sissoko went 0-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Sissoko was the top-ranked recruit out of Utah for the 2020 class by 247 Sports. He was also rated the No. 8 center and No. 40 overall player nationally for the class.
