Rosenthal joined the Spartans as a walk-on out of Winnetka, Wisconsin. After redshirting as a freshman in 2017, he took over the fullback job in 2018. His lone touchdown that season came after he recovered a Michigan State fumble in the end zone.
After 2018, Rosenthal struggled to see the field. The Spartans elected to no longer use a fullback, prompting Rosenthal to make the switch to tight end. He often appeared as an H-back. The highlight of his Michigan State career was likely when he scored on a touchdown pass against Michigan in 2019. Rosenthal did not dress for a single game in 2020.
With Mel Tucker wrapping up his first season in East Lansing, it appears that the Spartans are in the midst of a major roster overhaul. Rosenthal is the 10th Michigan State player to enter the transfer portal since Nov. 16.
