MSU’s Connor Heyward focused on winning, not starting RB job

Last season Connor Heyward left the Michigan State football program after just four games to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Then, back in February when Mel Tucker took the helm of the Spartan program, Heyward had a change of heart and opted to stay in East Lansing.
Good move.
Already this season, Heyward has started two-straight weeks for the Spartans and has contributed to three key plays during the upset victory over Michigan last weekend. He finished with 28 yards on 13 carries, catching a 2-yard touchdown pass on a screen from Ricky Lombardi in the second quarter, and then in the fourth period again taking a Lombardi screen into the endzone from 13 yards out to give MSU a 10-point lead. In addition, he helped to close out the game, smothering a Wolverines on-side kick attempt to allow the Spartans to run the clock out.
Heyward will continue to press and keep the pedal down, and when he was asked about his earning a starting spot he said, “I don’t feel like I’ve earned anything yet. Nothing is promised. The thing that matters most is winning at this point in my career.”
