After being named Nebraska’s backup, Tristan Gebbia didn’t practice Monday

Nebraska’s backup quarterback might be weighing his options.
On Sunday, Scott Frost named true freshman Adrian Martinez as the team’s starting quarterback for the Week 1 matchup against Akron on Saturday night. That slotted Tristan Gebbia in the No. 2 spot.
Though the battle was neck-and-neck and Frost even hinted at both players seeing reps on Saturday, it sounds like Gebbia may not be too thrilled about the situation.
During his press conference on Monday, Frost was asked about the quarterback situation heading into this week. He phrased it as “not ideal,” and said that Gebbia did not attend practice.
After Gebbia skipped out on Monday’s practice, Frost also said that he wants kids who “want to be” at Nebraska.

From the sound of things over the last week, Martinez and Gebbia made the decision difficult for Frost and his staff. Eventually, Martinez won out and will be the first true freshman to start the opening game in Nebraska history.
The freshman met with the media on Monday and said he “spilled his guts out” to win the job.
Headed into the season, the Huskers appeared to have a pretty good situation at quarterback and would have the ability to use Martinez and Gebbia interchangeably, if necessary.
It doesn’t sound like that will be an option for much longer.
