Michigan captured its first women’s gymnastics championship in program history on Saturday night.
The Wolverines got it done in thrilling fashion, out-scoring Oklahoma on the final routine of the season.
Junior Abby Heiskell scored a 9.9250 on beam to put her team over the top. Michigan’s overall score of 198.2500 is the third-best National Championship-winning score of all time.

This is 32 years I’ve been waiting for this feeling,” head coach Bev Plocki said in a release. “It’s just an unbelievable pride and just an admiration for what our team has been through and the sacrifices that they’ve made.”

The Wolverines beat out Oklahoma, Utah and Florida for the title.
Michigan is now the seventh program to win a National Championship in women’s gymnastics. It joins Georgia, Utah, UCLA, Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida.
